A-Hoy Sailor!

You know when you try so desperately hard to do something to your best ability and when you finish and really look at whatever it is that you're doing you realize that you did everything WRONG?! Isn't that just incredibly frustrating?!!?!? Well I am here to offer you a tool to use when this awful thing happens! The best solution to every problem! Here is the answer:

Drum Roll Please!!

Just put yourself to sleep. Yes. Go crawl in bed, watch something just absolutely ridiculous on the Television, and fall to sleep.

If you don't do this, you will probably keep working and it will just get worse and worse until you ninja kick the wall. Then what would you have? A HUGE WALL IN YOUR WALL AND YOUR MOM WILL YELL AT YOU! We all know that is the most scary thing in the world!!

This has been happening to me a lot lately and I am sick and tired of it! I want to be able to work on something without my stupidity kicking in. JUST ONCE! This might actually be an illness I am describing and you have no idea what the heck I am talking about because it has never happened to you!

Lately I have been changing things. I have recently rearranged my room and it looks so much bigger that was probably the smartest thing I have ever done! I peeled the hideous wallpaper off in my bathroom and am now working on cleaning the walls so I can begin to prime and paint them. I picked out this baby pink called Fading Rose. It is so pretty! I really think I need to see a doctor about my arm though, it feels like it is going to fall off from scrubbing!

I have also been trying to get out of the house and when I do I put together some great outfits!

This outfit makes me feel like a sailor. It is awesome! I love wearing it. The lions and cheetah print gives a cool jungle twist to the outfit. Sailors travel to amazingly beautiful exotic islands to I couldn't not add them!!

I have a love for this picture. Even though you can't really see what it is exactly that I am wearing, I feel like I look like a goddess because the kitty is looking up to me like that! I am so attached to this!
These shoes are E.T.Wright mens shoes made in England. I got them at Red Racks for $20 and they are selling on eBay between $40-$300. I don't want to resell them. I love them. Even if the make me look like I have clown feet.

My shirt is velvet. I love the feel of it. I was going to get a velvet shirt just like this one at a store for $39 but I found this one at a thrift store for $3.98. Even better!!

Thrift stores are the bomb people!! Don't look down on them. You can always find something spectacular!!

Peace out Homies!

Drive Drive Drive!!!

So the saying goes: "Good things come to those who wait." - I have no idea to said this

I do NOT agree with this at all. What are you doing as you are "waiting"? Sitting on your lazy butt eating Oreo's? I say Good things come to those with Drive! If you want something good go out there and take it. Don't stop until you have whatever it is that you want. No one can stop you.

Last Friday was Art Walk. I told you guys I was to take pictures. I was going to until my sister took the battery out of the camera and left it at home! Ugh that was annoying! It was truly great though!

I got my picture taken for the News Leader with a good friend of mine. I am in picture 13. There is also a picture of Jake Rogers Band in there somewhere. It is cool to look through!

I haven't really been doing much. I have been hanging out at the pool a lot. I signed up at LOOKBOOK which is an awesome website and you have to check it out if you're into fashion! Fan me if you would like.

This Friday I am leaving to go on a three day floating trip that my family and I take every year. We are on the river for 9 hours! It is exhausting and I usually get sunburnt. Goody! I somehow managed to sunburn the top of my head and it hurts like crazy!

This is an outfit post! The first one of June I believe. I don't know. My memory is not really here. I could very well be lying to you right now! MWAHAHAHAA

Now maybe you guys can see how this place is BORING! But I love it here. It's really old and run down. It is really neat to take pictures.

This is one of my favorite places to eat. It is a hole-in-the-wall place. I think the max amount of people it will hold is 7. It only sits four super uncomfortably at a really tiny bar like thing. There are posters up everywhere about events and the teenagers just have to draw mustaches on everyone.

This is my town!

Upholstery? For Clothes? For Fashion? Yes!

I was sitting on my couch drawing some outfits in my sketch book, you know, the norm, and when I looked to my left it all came to me. Every question in the entire universe had been answered and absolutely everything came together in a billionth of a second. I saw a pillow. This was a very special pillow. My Mom made it. Yes, she made it. She made it out of upholstery fabric. UPHOLSTERY FABRIC!!

I have always liked this fabric and was always drawn to it in the fabric stores. I would show my Mom and beg for it. I would get down on my knees and plead, I needed it so badly! The response would be one of three things: "Ew Makayla. No! It is hideous!" or "No Makayla. You are ridiculous. You need therapy! Not that ugly fabric." or "You have got to be kidding me! Stop living in your head and look at the world around you! That is just absolutely AWFUL! I'm about to be sick!"

Okay, well the last two are pushing it a little. But it didn't matter I needed that fabric. And I never got it.

As I was drawing this outfit I kept trying to picture the fabric it needed I was stuck. It was like everything in the world stood at a halt and nothing was moving. My brain froze and my eyes grew to a blank stare. As I was staring blankly, my head sort of tilted and after about five seconds of being motionless I saw that pillow. The pillow that changed my life. Okay that is probably too dramatic too, but yes. Then after coming to my senses again after looking at that beautiful pillow, my whole family was sitting there staring at me. That is how I was put into this mental hospital.

Nope. I'm in a hospital. My family didn't look at me either. They were staring blankly into the TV. Oh man I'm going to be hit for that one. They didn't do that either. It doesn't matter what they were doing. I saw that beautifully amazing pillow.

I was staring to get extreme;y bored with how the fabrics of the two dresses I made worked together. They didn't really make any sense to me. I have always been a fan of juxtapositions. As I thought about the upholstery fabric I noticed it was heavy and had both a roughness and smoothness about it. I adore tulle and know that that is a must-have in the garment. When I put the two fabrics together in my head it exploded. The tulle is transparent and light weight. The upholstery is heavy, it doesn't breathe.. They are the exact opposites and that happened to be exactly what I was looking for.

This was my idea. It looks a lot better in my head, I promise. I want the tulle to fill out the bottom of the dress and stick out a little bit so it is noticeable. But I also wanted it through out the dress. I have practiced with gathering tulle and it work excellently! I am really excited about this idea. I hope you guys are too.

This might mean that the whole collection is changing. FOR THE BETTER!

I Don't Give a Damn About My Reputation!

Another beginning to another long week in this long hot summer with, sadly, not much to do in a place like this. Saying this is actually quite sad because for most of us the summer has just started. It just seems like all I do is sleep and watch Doctor Who and whatever else. I have been spending time with some really good people though. They are really fun. We mostly just hang out at the river that we never get into because it is colder than dry ice. We also hang out at the park really late at night and just play around. It is really nice. I miss being a kid and never having to deal with anything. I like just being able to spin.

I plan to glue a camera around my neck pretty soon so I can introduce you guys to my world. It is pretty boring but some of the things that go on you can't see much of anywhere besides here. Like Art Walk. Art Walk is held downtown every first Friday of the month. It is so much fun and it is filled with the people you eat lunch with at the school cafeteria. Your usual stoners and artsy peeps, some preps not most usually, and you not-so-everyday people. They are fun to watch and get to know. You meet the nicest and coolest people there. I plan to go this Friday and show you guys how it is.

I have also been very busy sewing. I have finished dress number two for the most part.

The dress flares out at the bottom. I would have to pull it out for you to see. As I was putting it together it kept reminding me of the things I would dress up in when I was a little girl. That is a very good thing because that is the whole concept of the entire thing. I think I am going to hem it a lot I don't know if I like the dress that long. I have mixed feelings about everything I have made. I think it might be just because I made it. I don't know. If you have any opinions, any opinions at all please don't hesitate to tell me.

As I was making this dress my Dad came in extremely excited about this new station he found on Pandora. I think it was Lily Allen. A couple of songs in, I heard it. I heard the song. Right as it started I knew. I knew it would be the song that would be playing as these dresses started walking. It is Trouble is a Friend by Lenka. I have listened to Lenka for years and I was so glad to find out that she sang this.

I had heard this somewhere before and when I asked who sang it I hit myself and said DUH!

Lenka is super cool and so are her music videos.

I was listening to this song all weekend and I started thinking about the walking and I also came up with the idea that I could find or put together a mix of all the Disney princess movies' theme songs. I also thought that that would be expected though. If you have a preference, LET ME KNOW!

I have been teaching myself how to flat pattern over YouTube and one of my really good friends' Mom knows how and she dropped off some books for me to look at. It is all staring to make more sense which is a major relief!

I was going to say something but I can't seem to remember... I guess if it was really important it would come to me. Oh well.

Have a great week! I hope you enjoyed!
